ST. DAVID SCHOOL GOOD
CITIZENSHIP CONTRACT
The
content of this contract is supplemental to the "Behavior &
Discipline
Guidelines"
portion
of the "St. David School Richmond Parent Handbook."
A. The school
environment,
inside and outside the classroom, should be one where people and their
opinions are respected, valued, and discussed in a positive way. To
that
end, the undersigned agrees to observe the following rules as well as
to
encourage others to follow them:
1.
I
will listen when the teacher, other students, or other adults are
speaking
(never interrupting).
2. I will show
respect
to all faculty, staff, and adult volunteers. In particular I will not
“talk
back” to adults and I will follow their instructions.
3. I will
respect
school property, and other people’s property, by not touching it or
marking
it in any way.
4. All of my
comments
will be positive and constructive: a) I will not laugh or make remarks
to myself or to others about the thoughts and opinions expressed by
others
in the classroom. b) I will not curse or use inappropriate language or
gestures, including sexual, racial, or ethnic slurs of any kind.
5. I will not
gossip
about other people or pass notes in class.
6. I will not
use
any handheld electronic device or a cell phone (including talking,
“texting,”
taking photos, etc.) anywhere on school or parish grounds. Phones in a
student’s possession that are seen or heard will be confiscated and
given
to the office.
7. I will not
chew
or eat gum, candy, or food of any kind in the classroom or hallway.
(Gum
is not allowed anywhere on the school or parish grounds.)
8. When
changing classes,
going to recess, or going to lunch, I will move as quickly and quietly
as possible; I will not run in school or church.
9. I will come
to
school in complete uniform every day when a uniform is required.
Uniform
requirements are those specified in the Parent/Student handbook,
including
no makeup of any kind, limitations on jewelry, skirt length, sagging
pants,
etc.
B. Warnings are
discretionary,
not mandatory. These rules are written, discussed, and understood so
verbal
or written warnings (e.g., name on board) are not required prior to
taking
off points as described below. Students may be verbally warned about
the
violation (a verbal warning to the class in general or to specific
individuals).
However, this contract serves as notice (in effect, a warning) that
points
will be taken off the Citizenship grade for any of the violations
listed
above.
C. Student
Behavior
Reports: Students will receive a citizenship (behavior) report every
three
weeks. A total of fifteen points will be possible for each three-week
period.
Students will begin each three-week period with a possible score of
15/15
(100%), but all scores will be averaged together for the final
trimester
grade. Violations of these rules will result in the following actions:
Step
1: Points/Grades:
The student will be given a ticket and have one point taken off the
behavior
score for the current progress report period (for a score of 14, 93%).
One additional point will be taken off for each additional violation.

Step 2:
Note home/Detention:
Once a student's score equals a D+ or below, the teacher will send a
note
home and the student will be assigned a detention. If the low score
coincides
with the end of the progress report period, the note home will be sent
concurrently with the progress report.
Step 3:
Conference
required: A grade of D+ or below in Citizenship at the end of a
three
week progress report period requires a conference with the principal.
The
principal’s actions will be at her discretion according to the rules
specified
by the Diocese of Oakland and as reflected in the Parent/Student
Handbook.
Detention also may be assigned for other violations at the discretion
of
the teacher and the principal.
D. At any time
appropriate,
violators may be asked to apologize to individual (s) offended either
in
person or in writing.
By signing
below you
acknowledge your understanding of the rules and consequences specified
in the Good Citizenship Contract. Thank you for helping to make a safe
and positive environment at St. David School.
