ST. DAVID MIDDLE SCHOOL HOMEWORK POLICY
This policy is a supplement to the "Homework Assignments" portion of the
"St. David School Richmond Parent Handbook."
Responsibility for homework: Independence and responsibility are important values that we can give our students as we prepare them for high school. Consequently, it is a student’s responsibility (some students may still need some assistance from parents) to be aware of what the homework assignments are, when they are due, and to turn them in on time. It is the responsibility of a student to turn in any class work done during a particular class by the end of that class. If a parent is concerned about whether homework is being done, s/he should establish a routine for checking a student’s homework before it is due.

The importance of class work/homework: Such work is an important part of education because it reinforces and helps students retain skills introduced in the classroom. In the upper grades especially, such work is essential preparatory work for doing well on tests.

Turning homework in on time: Homework is accepted on the day due only. There is no “grace period” or half credit available. Homework that is not turned in when it is due will not receive any points. That is, it will be recorded in the grade book as 0% (F). Therefore, if homework is frequently turned in late, a student's final grade may be affected. Students will be given one late homework pass each month.

Incomplete work: Work that is turned in but not completed is given half credit (50% F).

Missing Assignments: Missing work may not be made up. Any record keeping errors may be corrected, but no late or missing work may be turned in.

Absences: Students will be allowed an extension on due dates up to the number of school days that were missed. The extension applies to homework and tests that were missed because of absences.

Progress Reports: Students in Middle School will receive a progress report every three to four weeks. This procedure is intended keep students and parents aware of a student's success, as well as aware of any academic or behavioral issues that may be interfering with a student's success in school.
