PRESENTATION INFORMATION AND CHECKLIST OF INSTRUCTIONS

PRESENTATIONS
IN GENERAL:
  • Address all relevant questions about your topic. Add any details necessary to completely cover the scope of your topic.
  • Find photos and other graphic items to use on your poster for your presentation. Make sure all items are labeled.
  • All parts of the presentation (as described below) are due on the date shown. Late items will be marked down.
  • The project will be worth a total of 75 points and is given the same weight as a test. All students begin with a full score of 75 points. As long as all requirements specified are met, students will keep all of those points.  However, any requirements not met, or not completely met, will result in subtractions from the complete score. Presentations that exceed the time limit of 5 minutes will be marked down.
  • Begin your research with the Internet links on the web site's home page.
ASSIGNMENT RUBRIC
PRESENTATION (25 points)
Beginning: Each presentation should begin with, “Hi (or other appropriate greeting), my name is ____________. “Today I will be telling you about _____________.” (Brief statement of your topic.)

Length: The presentation should be approximately five minutes in length.  Practice your presentation so you know how long it is and so that you can give it without just reading from the report.

Complete: Your presentation should give all of the important facts and details about your topic. Your presentations should be an oral version of your written report,  but you should not actually read your written report. Make notes and put them on 3 x 5 inch cards.

Presence: Students should be able to give the presentation without merely reading from a paper. Rehearse your presentation.

Conclusion: Each presentation should conclude with, “This concludes my presentation. Are there any questions?” Three audience questions will be allowed. Only serious, thoughtful questions should be asked and answered.

POSTER (25 points)
Students should use only one average size poster board (about 22 x 28 inches). No trifolds!

The title of your topic should be centered in large letters at the top of the poster. Just below that (still at the top) should be your name as the presenter.

The material on the poster board should include copies of photographs or paintings or other items significant to your particular topic that represent that topic in a graphic way. ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE LABELED.

Students should refer to the poster during the presentation (not just at the end).

The poster should not include your report or any other large sections of text.

REPORT FORM (25 points)
Students must cover their topic thoroughly and completely. Include any information that you feel is necessary to the development of your topic. The written report must be turned in on the day of the presentations.

FORMAT: You may word process your report on the computer or write it out by hand.

  • Any word-processed paper must be double spaced in either 12 or 14-point font in Arial, Comic Sans, or Times New Roman. The paper must have one-inch margins left and right and top and bottom. The pages must be numbered. The first page should list your topic, your name, and the date at the top.
  • Hand written reports must follow the same basic format and be written as neatly as possible.
  • The first paragraph of your report should include a brief description of the scope of your presentation.
  • The body of your report should specify dates of events that are the subject of your presentation or that involve the person about whom you are talking. It must be clear what period of time is covered by your report.
  • Your report should have a conclusion that ties the various elements of the report together. Add any other information you think is important to completely cover your topic.
The report should not be just cut and pasted from the Internet or an encyclopedia. It should represent your original or paraphrased writing. Any report that is primarily or completely cut and pasted from the Internet will not receive the 25 points allocated to the written report.

Word processed or hand written, the report should be between 750 to 1000 words.
