GRADING POLICY FOR TESTS, CLASSWORK, AND HOMEWORK
Information about letter grades
Progress Reports:
There will be a progress report every three to four weeks for Middle School students. Two of those progress reports will coincide with an all school progress report and the end of the trimester report card. (See the home page for the exact dates.) The scores on the Progress Reports are based on a combination of classwork, tests, and homework. Test scores are a significant benchmark in a student’s learning of a topic or subject and, thus, are given a greater weight when determining a final grade. Usually, tests represent from 60 to 70% of a student’s grade. The remaining percentages  are a combination of credit for classwork and homework (and, for some subjects, a presentation category).

Classwork:
We do a lot of work in class that is directed toward developing thinking and problem solving skills. Parents should know that not all of that work necessarily shows up in a documented form to send home. Classwork needs to be done during the class time allowed for it because it is the student's practice of skills currently being taught and discussed following completion of the classwork. Points are awarded for staying on task and paying attention  to getting the work done. Please be assured that plenty of time in class will be allowed to complete the work or project; however, work not turned in when due will result in a zero score for that assignment.

Homework:
Homework not turned in when due, will not receive any points. Homework may only be made up if a student is out sick. Points are awarded for homework completed and turned in on time. Therefore, if homework is frequently turned in late, a student's final grade may be affected.

Honesty Policy:
Plagiarism (cheating) is making a duplicate (or making minor changes only) of someone else's work and putting your name on it thereby representing the document as yours. Any test or assignment, should be the student's own work and should not be a duplicate of any other document found on the Internet or produced by another student. Honesty is presumed until proven otherwise. Anyone guilty of plagiarism will be given a zero on the assignment (or test) and will be subject to other potential consequences.

Grade Point Average:
To determine a student's grade point average (GPA) for the trimester, total the grade points on the report card for the letter grades for English, Literature, Math, Religion, Science, and Social Studies and then divide by 6. (All totals should be rounded to the nearest tenths place.) This number is a student's GPA for that period of time. The GPA is used to determine the level of Honors and other awards given for the trimester.
